Jofra Archer in contention for a place in England’s World Cup squad?

Jofra Archer has impressed one and all with his sheer pace and lethal bowling. In the last couple of years, his performances in various T20 leagues around the world have put him on the world map. He had put in a stellar show in IPL for Rajasthan Royals last year. Also, he had a fruitful stint in the BBL.

Even though the pacer was born in the Carribean, he has always made his intentions clear about willing to play for England. His wish might soon come true as he is in contention for a place in England’s squad for the World Cup 2019. Next month, Jofra Archer will be eligible for selection in the England team.

The prestigious tournament will be held in England and Wales. It is just over 3 months away from now. England is the No.1 ranked ODI team in the world currently. Also, they will have the advantage of playing at home. They are being considered the firm favorites to lift the title as they possess a strong unit.

Archer’s inclusion will only make it stronger. He is a deadly bowler who can deliver at 150 clicks. The pacer is pretty difficult to score off, especially at the death. Plus, he is handy with the bat too. But the question will remain who would Jofra Archer replace in the side? England already has a handful of all-rounders like Ben Stokes, Moeen Ali, Chris Woakes. They also have depth in the pace department with the presence of Mark Wood and Lia Plunkett.

Jofra Archer is extremely talented: Morgan

England’s ODI captain Eoin Morgan recently talked about Jofra’s chances. Morgan feels that Jofra Archer is an exceptional talent as he showcased that in big tournaments. He didn’t deny the possibility of the pacer being included in the English camp.

“I’ve played against Jofra on numerous occasions and he comes with a big reputation. That reputation is justified because he’s an extremely talented young cricketer. He’s raw but he’s performed in big tournaments around the world like the IPL and the Big Bash. As soon as he qualifies, we’ll make a decision on him and think about what direction we’re going to go in,” Morgan was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.
