Javed Miandad Points out the Issues in Dhoni’s Batting this Season

Former Pakistan cricket legend Javed Miandad wrote in detail about Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s IPL journey so far. In his article for Indian Express, Miandad spoke about the issues Dhoni might be facing in IPL 2020.

Dhoni needs to assess himself

Javed Miandan, a legendary cricketer of Pakistan wrote in Indian Express about Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Miandad gave his insight on the issues Dhoni might be going through and explained why the former Indian cricket captain seems to be struggling on the field. “I have seen (MS) Dhoni’s batting in this IPL. To me, the problem areas are his timing and reflexes. If a player is not totally match fit, his timing and reflexes get slower. Dhoni needs to assess himself. Self-assessment is what you do constantly as long as you are playing the game.”

Miandad added, “Dhoni has come to this IPL after a long lay-off. He didn’t have any game time coming into this IPL. And here is where the problem lies. It’s not easy to become match fit and get into the groove, coming from such a long lay-off.”

Miandad explains Dhoni’s issues

Miandad wrote that Dhoni’s age is the real obstacle here. According to there is no technical glitch in Dhoni’s batting. However, the Chennai Super Kings skipper needs to match-fit. “For a player of Dhoni’s age, it becomes even more difficult. Dhoni needs to make himself match-fit enough. Physically Dhoni is still very fit. Nobody is unfit, when he is playing at this level. I am talking about his match fitness.” Miandad continued, “What I have seen, his body positions were not right for certain shots. This is a reason why he is struggling with his timing. There’s absolutely no technical issues with his batting. Dhoni just needs to make himself a little more match-fit.”

Miandad gave an example of his own career and explained, “I could have continued as an international cricketer even after the 1996 World Cup. But I decided that it was the right time to call it quits. Also, after playing the game for such a long time, boredom had set in – the monotony of going through the daily routine like getting up early, going for the jogging etc.”
