Jasprit Bumrah’s Return to International Cricket Expected to Face Challenges, Says Former Cricketer Lakshmipathy Balaji

Former India international cricketer, Lakshmipathy Balaji, has voiced his opinions about Jasprit Bumrah’s comeback to international cricket following his back surgery. Balaji believes that Bumrah’s return might not be entirely smooth, considering the lengthy recovery period the pacer has undergone. He anticipates a few hurdles in Bumrah’s journey back to the top but also highlights the significance of the upcoming T20I series against Ireland in evaluating Bumrah’s fitness for the subsequent Asia Cup and World Cup.

Bumrah’s return may be filled with challenges

Bumrah, known for his exceptional bowling skills, underwent a back surgery and subsequently underwent an extensive rehabilitation process at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, under the guidance of VVS Laxman, the chief of NCA. While the medical experts and trainers have worked tirelessly to aid Bumrah’s recovery, Balaji believes that the extended break might pose certain challenges for the pacer.

“Any back surgery, it’ll have some little bit of hiccups here and there. But that is the maximum you can do. For conservative healing, if it has not healed, and you have the surgery option and to take it and then come back, it’s the last stage… So, everything is going to be new (for him), and again getting back, there will be challenges, but that is what makes individuals perform higher,” Balaji expressed his insights.

Balaji lauds Siraj for leading India’s bowling attack in Bumrah’s absence

Amidst Bumrah’s absence, another pace sensation, Mohammed Siraj, has stepped up to the plate and showcased remarkable performances in white-ball cricket. Balaji praises Siraj’s achievements and emphasises his significance to the national team. With Siraj’s consistent contributions, Balaji envisions a promising chance for India to secure their third ODI World Cup title.

“In the recent past in white-ball cricket, Siraj has done exceedingly well. So, it’s up to the selection committee and the team management. But we have got a very good chance (of winning the World Cup) this time!” Balaji acknowledges the impressive form of Siraj and his potential to contribute significantly to India’s World Cup campaign.
