Indian speedster Jasprit Bumrah had a tremendous 2018. He made his debut against South Africa in the longest format of the game and pretty soon, became the most trusted bowler for the captain Virat Kohli. Bumrah finished as the highest wicket-taker of the year for India in the year. India’s legendary all-rounder Kapil Dev was mightily impressed with the young man.

When Bumrah had first burst onto the scene, not many thought he would make it to Test cricket with the weird action. But the pacer played that to his advantage. After shining in white ball cricket, he made an immediate impact in Test cricket. Kapil Dev was also amongst those who thought Bumrah won’t come this far with his action.

“I have to tell you that Bumrah has proved me wrong. When I saw him first time I had thought (whether) he could last long with this kind of action, but he has. Hats off to him and I really compliment him for his superlative show in Australia. His mindset must be very strong,” said Kapil Dev as quoted by Times of India.

You have to respect Bumrah, reckons Kapil Dev

Bumrah played a pivotal role in all the away tours of India in 2018. Even though the team didn’t taste too much success, yet Bumrah was on the rise. In the ongoing Test series against Australia, he has been India’s best bowler. He has bowled consistently over 145 clicks and is one of the premier reasons for India’s 2-1 lead.

“I think he is fabulous. With such a short run-up, if he can generate 140-plus speeds consistently, you have to respect him. He has a special shoulder. These types of bowlers are unique,” added Kapil Dev.
