Jason Behrendorff Eyes T20 World Cup Ticket After Impressive 12-Month Run

In 2024, another big cricket tournament is coming up. The T20 World Cup is scheduled to commence from June. West Indies and the USA will organize this edition of the tournament. All the teams are preparing hard to showcase their best on the global stage. With a successful year and a knack for performing on slower pitches, Behrendorff aims to catch the attention of the national selectors as they finalize the squad for the upcoming tournament.

Behrendroff’s Struggle and Aim to Comeback:

Jason Behrendorff, 33, stands out as an attractive choice for Australia, towering at 6 foot 4 with a knack for generating tricky bounces and sharp swings. Initially seen as a potential Test successor to Mitchell Johnson, persistent back problems steered him towards shorter formats. Despite not featuring in a first-class match since 2017, he consistently excelled for Perth Scorchers in the BBL and Western Australia in the Marsh Cup

Behrendorff made sporadic appearances for Australia in white-ball cricket, notably securing a five-wicket haul at Lord’s during the 2019 World Cup. However, ongoing physical challenges and emerging talents like Jhye Richardson and Lance Morris posed competition.

Back in great shape and riding high from a standout IPL season, left-arm speedster Jason Behrendorff aims to impress the national selectors for Australia’s T20 World Cup squad. His success on slower pitches adds to his appeal, making him a hopeful contender. The upcoming three-match T20I series against West Indies will be crucial for Behrendorff to showcase his skills and strengthen his case for selection. With his inclusion in Australia’s squad, including a potential appearance on his home ground at Optus Stadium, Behrendorff is eager to contribute to the T20 World Cup campaign.

Behrendroff’s Words:

The Aussie star opened up about this matter. He said, “I’ve had a decent run at just playing cricket and staying on the park, so I’ve been able to develop my game and just get that consistency. That was the thing with those injuries from 24 to 29, I played maybe six months out of every 12. Hopefully, I can really tack that onto the back end of my career and play as much as I possibly can into my late 30s.”

The left-arm pacer showcased his skills with the new ball, maintaining his trademark threat. Additionally, Behrendorff displayed versatility by effectively employing slower balls, cutters, and yorkers throughout different phases of the innings. His outstanding contributions earned him the title of Australia’s T20I Player of the Year.

He said, “I played four out of five games and there were short turnarounds, so that was really a big confidence boost for me in terms of getting on the park day after day. I was able to execute my skills, that was the biggest thing for me.”

As he awaits news on his T20 World Cup inclusion, Behrendorff gears up for a return to Mumbai, eager to continue building on the success of his previous IPL season. On this matter, he said, “It’s an exciting period with Hardik Pandya coming back and it’s going to be a great feel around that group again. Hopefully, we can get back up towards the top of the table.”
