Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) faced another setback in the IPL despite Virat Kohli’s exceptional form, as they suffered their fourth loss in five games this season against Rajasthan Royals (RR). Head coach Andy Flower expressed concern over the team’s batting struggles and lack of confidence, despite Kohli’s remarkable century (113 runs).
Flower lamented the team’s predicament, stating, “We’re one from five and that’s not a position any side wants to be. Yes, we do have some issues with our batting. We got Virat in superb form but other guys are struggling for form and confidence.”
In an effort to boost the team’s morale, Flower emphasized their focus on strengthening the players’ confidence and form. He acknowledged the current trend in the IPL, where teams are scoring aggressively, and highlighted the importance of the players’ form and confidence in putting pressure on the opposition.
RCB’s batting lineup, apart from Kohli, struggled in the match, with only Faf Du Plessis offering notable support with his 44 off 33 balls. Flower acknowledged the team’s discussions on strike rates and aggression, especially on challenging pitches.

Flower noted, “It’s just a fact that at the moment that our top five aren’t in sparkling form except Virat. It’s a tough place to be.” However, he expressed confidence in the players’ efforts and dedication, despite the lack of desired results, emphasizing the need for a collective resurgence.
Jos Buttler‘s exceptional century for RR was praised by RCB’s bowling coach Shane Bond, who highlighted Buttler’s partnership with Yashasvi Jaiswal as crucial for RR’s success. Bond also admired the contrasting styles of Kohli and Buttler, describing them as “two very different types of players but both fantastic to watch.”
RCB will be looking to address their batting woes and regain momentum in the IPL, as they aim to turn their season around with a more consistent performance from their batting lineup.
