“It was evident that this would be Virat’s day”: Sachin Tendulkar on Virat Kohli

On Thursday at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, Match 65 of the IPL 2023 saw Royal Challengers Bangalore register a thumping victory over the  Sunrisers Hyderabad by an eight-wicket margin. Virat Kohli’s innings of 100 runs off 63 balls helped RCB reach 187/2 in 19.2 overs while chasing a goal of 187 runs. The former RCB captain hit 12 fours and four sixes during his innings. Faf du Plessis, meanwhile, hit seven fours and two sixes in his 71 off 47 deliveries.

Kohli played a chanceless knock today and was in the zone from ball one. He scored a boundary off the first ball showing signs that something special was brewing. The Indian superstar scored runs all over the park playing crisp drives and pulls. The pleasing thing about the knock was the way he played in the middle overs. He did not slow down and continued to hit boundaries and find gaps. He was excellent against spinners. He attacked Abhishek Sharma in the second over itself. The RCB opener also hit one slog sweep off Mayank Dagar which was unusual from him. Once he passed fifty, he toyed with the bowlers. He cleared the boundary at will with one maximum over 100 meters. He brought his century with a six over mid wicket. It was his sixth IPL hundred. His knock consisted of 12 fours and 4 sixes with a strike rate of 158.73.

Sachin Tendulkar praises Virat

His innings received a huge praise from the Master Blaster. Sachin Tendulkar said that the way he scored his first boundary showed that he was in the groove and up for a big knock.

“It was evident that this would be Virat’s day from the very first ball when he played that cover drive. Virat and Faf both looked in total control, they not only played many big shots but also ran rather well between the wickets to build a successful partnership. 186 wasn’t a big enough total for the way they both batted.”

With this win, RCB moved upto the fourth position in the points table with still one match to go. They will play their next match at home against the defending champions Gujarat Titans on 21st May, Sunday.
