“It shows that our coaches are not behind any foreign coaches.” Gautam Gambhir Shared His Thoughts on India’s Coaching System

India performed exceptionally well in the World Cup 2023. They ended up being the runners-up. With the World Cup, Rahul Dravid’s tenure as the head coach of Team India ended. But after that, BCCI extended the contract with Rahul Dravid and he remained the coach of the Indian team. On the other hand, Pakistan experimented a lot by appointing foreign coaches but they were knocked out of the World Cup from the group stage. Former Indian player Gautam Gambhir shared his belief in an Indian player to be the coach of Team India.

Pakistan’s Experiment and World Cup Performance:

Pakistan’s coaching department was mostly dependent on foreign players. Mone Morkel was taking after the bowling department. Mickey Arthur was the Director of the team. Pakistan Cricket appointed them for the betterment of their team in the World Cup. But they showcased a poor performance on the big stage. After winning two consecutive matches in the start, they started losing consecutive games.

After the World Cup, a lot of things have changed in Pakistan Cricket. Babar Azam resigned from the captaincy. Morne Morkel stepped down from his charge. Mickey Arthur also resigned. The Chairman of the selection committee, Inzamam-ul-Haq resigned from the post. Pakistan Cricket is decked up with a whole new setup.

Gautam Gambhir’s Words:

In a media interaction, Gautam Gambhir talked about the matter. Before him, Pakistani legend Wasim Akram said that foreign coaches are not the solution to change a team’s performance. Gambhir supported him. He said, “We saw how well India played in the World Cup and that shows that we don’t need anyone from outside. It shows that our coaches are not behind any foreign coaches. Our problem is we are probably not able to give presentations that way, use the laptop, or speak English that well. We don’t come from that corporate culture, but we know how to put the hard yards on the field and do the groundwork.”

Then he added, “We are not nations who have started playing cricket 10 years ago. We have players who have won the World Cup. An Indian should coach the Indian team, a Pakistani should coach the Pakistan team.”
