Kishan initially received BCCI permission for a break after the South Africa tour. However, reports of him spending time partying in Dubai instead of focusing on recovery reportedly upset the board and team management. Since then, he has missed out on selection for the Afghanistan T20Is and the first two Tests against England.
Dravid reiterated the team’s stance when questioned about Kishan’s availability for the Test series. He delivered a simple yet firm message: “Ishan Kishan needs to start playing to be considered for selection, we are in touch with him.” Despite this clear directive, Kishan remains absent from the ongoing Ranji Trophy, further fueling speculation about his next move.
Jharkhand Team Unsure of Kishan’s Plans
Adding to the mystery, the Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA) secretary, Debasish Chakraborty, expressed unawareness of Kishan’s current plans. “No, Ishan hasn’t contacted us or told us anything about his availability. Whenever he tells us, he will walk into the playing XI,” he stated.
Back in January, Dravid had already hinted at this requirement, stating, “Ishan Kishan was not available for selection…When he is available, he will play domestic cricket and make himself available for selection.” This underlines the importance domestic cricket holds in Kishan’s potential return to the national team.
