The big day in the history of the Indian Premier League is finally here. It’s the mega auction of the IPL 2022 that would run over the weekend. Bangalore is ready to host the much-anticipated event. A total of 600 players from across the cricketing fraternity are set to go under the hammer.

This year, ten franchises are set to participate in the auction. Two new teams have been introduced from this year. Lucknow Supergiants and Gujarat Titans based out of Ahmedabad will be the two new teams. The Supergiants had picked KL Rahul, Marcus Stoinis and Ravi Bishnoi before the auction. On the other hand, Hardik Pandya, Rashid Khan and Shubman Gill have been taken by the Titans.

The other eight franchises had been given the option to retain as many as four players from their respective previous squads. Here are the players that were retained by the franchises so far.

There are some of the biggest names who will be in the wishlist of multiple franchises. Ten of those players have been identified as the marquee players. David Warner, Shreyas Iyer, Ravichandran Ashwin, Trent Boult, Pat Cummins, Quinton de Kock, Shikhar Dhawan, Faf du Plessis, Kagiso Rabada and Mohammed Shami are the top players. All of them have a base price of INR 2 crores.

Because it’s the mega auction, the ten franchises would be looking to build their teams around the Indian players. Therefore, they are expected to break the banks for the Indian contingent. Few of the franchises are also looking for a captain. So, the likes of David Warner, Shreyas Iyer, Pat Cummins could be in the radar of many franchises.

Before the auction, Punjab Kings have the highest amount remaining in the purse. So, they will be looking to build a strong team. Delhi Capitals have the least purse left but they have managed to retain the core that did so well for them in the last couple of years.
