IPL 2024: Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Wanindu Hasaranga’s Arrival Uncertain

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) might have to wait longer for the arrival of star Sri Lankan all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Hasaranga, who was acquired by SRH for INR 1.50 crore in the IPL 2024 mini auction, is a key addition to the team’s overseas spin options.

While Hasaranga’s manager confirmed that the player will join the SRH squad, the exact timeframe remains uncertain. The manager stated, “He (Hasaranga) will join sooner than later. All I can say is he will definitely join the team.”

There were speculations regarding Hasaranga’s willingness to play for SRH due to his comparatively lower paycheck, as he had received INR 10.50 crore at his previous franchise, RCB. However, the manager dismissed these speculations, emphasizing that Hasaranga wants to enjoy the IPL and is in touch with the franchise.

Hasaranga had missed the first two games for SRH due to chronic pain in his left heel. He is scheduled to undergo a medical examination in Dubai on Sunday, March 31, to address the persistent issue in his left ankle.

Despite his injury, Hasaranga played in Sri Lanka’s recent white-ball matches against Bangladesh. However, he was later suspended from playing in the two-match Test series against Bangladesh for breaching the ICC’s code of conduct.

SRH will be eager to have Hasaranga join their squad soon, as his presence will bolster their spin department and provide valuable all-round capabilities. However, his health and well-being remain the top priority, and the franchise will wait for his return at the right time.
