IPL 2024 Points Table: Updated After MI vs RCB Match 25

A dominant bowling performance by Jasprit Bumrah and explosive batting displays from Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav saw Mumbai Indians (MI) thrash Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by seven wickets in a high-scoring encounter at the Wankhede Stadium. This victory propels MI up the IPL 2024 points table standings, while RCB finds themselves struggling in the lower half.

Bumrah’s Five-Wicket Haul Stifles RCB

RCB, after electing to bat first, got off to a shaky start as Bumrah removed Virat Kohli for a meagre 3 runs in his opening over.  The pacer continued his dominance, dismissing Will Jacks cheaply and claiming two hat-trick opportunities throughout his spell.

Despite a valiant 53 not out from Dinesh Karthik, RCB could only manage a total of 196 for 8 wickets, with Bumrah finishing with a stellar 5-wicket haul for just 21 runs.

MI Batsmen Feast on Favorable Pitch

Chasing a seemingly manageable target on a batsman-friendly Wankhede pitch, MI openers Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma got off to a flying start.  Kishan, in particular, played a blistering knock, reaching his fifty off just 23 balls before being dismissed.

Suryakumar Yadav, returning from injury, continued the momentum with a quickfire 17-ball fifty, reminding everyone of his destructive batting prowess.  With significant contributions from both openers and Suryakumar, MI chased down the target comfortably with seven wickets and nearly five overs to spare.

Points Table Re-Shuffle

This comprehensive victory marks MI’s second win of the season, propelling them up the IPL 2024 points table from seventh to a more secure position.  Meanwhile, RCB’s struggles continue, with their loss placing them in the ninth position.  Rajasthan Royals remain at the top of the table with 8 points from 5 games.
