IPL 2024 Points Table: Updated After DC vs CSK Match 13

Gujarat Titans Outclass Sunrisers Hyderabad at Home

Sunrisers Hyderabad’s 162/8 proved insufficient against a dominant Gujarat Titans batting display in Ahmedabad. Opting to bat first, Hyderabad’s innings lacked explosiveness. While Abhishek Sharma (29) and Abdul Samad (29) got starts, wickets fell at regular intervals thanks to disciplined bowling from Titans’ spinners.

Noor Ahmed (1-32) impressed in his first game of the season, while Rashid Khan (1-33) bounced back from his previous outing. Mohit Sharma (3-25) was exceptional at the death, conceding just 13 runs in his last three overs.

Chasing a modest target, the Titans’ top-order trio laid the foundation for victory. Wriddhiman Saha’s quickfire 25 provided a flying start, allowing Shubman Gill (36) to settle. After Gill’s dismissal, Sai Sudharsan (45) took over, scoring crucial boundaries before holing out to Cummins. David Miller (44*), struggling with form earlier in the season, found his touch after a short injury break.

He smashed 26 runs off Markande in a single over and finished the chase with a six off the first ball of the final over, securing a comfortable seven-wicket win for Titans, their 11th out of 12 at home this IPL season.

CSK Falter Despite Dhoni’s Heroics

In a thrilling finish at Visakhapatnam, Delhi Capitals defeated Chennai Super Kings by 20 runs. Chasing 192, CSK relied heavily on MS Dhoni’s (37*) late blitz, but fell short in a dramatic final over.

Earlier, Delhi Capitals posted a competitive 191/5. Openers David Warner (52) and Prithvi Shaw (43) provided a solid foundation with aggressive knocks. After their dismissals, a middle-order wobble threatened to stall the innings. However, Rishabh Pant (51) rose to the occasion, smashing a crucial fifty to propel Delhi to a strong total.

Chennai’s chase began brightly with Ajinkya Rahane (45) showing good touch. Dhoni’s arrival at the crease in the 17th over sent the crowd into a frenzy. The veteran smashed boundaries with ease, raising hopes of a dramatic win.

With 46 needed off the last two overs, Mukesh Kumar (3-21) bowled a superb over of wide yorkers, restricting Dhoni and Jadeja. Despite Dhoni’s valiant effort, CSK fell short, handing Delhi their first win of the season. Dhoni eventually finished at 37 not out off of just 16 deliveries, with 4 fours and 3 sixes, which was enough for the crowd despite CSK losing.

New Kings of the Point Table

After losing to the Delhi Capitals, the Chennai Super Kings have lost their top spot in the IPL 2024 Points Table. The Ruturaj Gaikwad-led team has slipped to the second spot, with Kolkata Knight Riders replacing them at the top. Both teams have equal points but CSK’s Net Run Rate (NRR) has dropped after tonight’s loss, thereby causing them to slip.

On the other hand, the Delhi Capitals have risen just two spots, and are now placed 7th after tonight’s win. Speaking of the first game, Gujarat Titans, with 2 wins in 3 games, have replaced Sunrisers Hyderabad in the top 4. They are now placed in the 4th spot, where the Sunrisers Hyderabad were placed before the start of the game. SRH are now placed 5. Mumbai Indians now remain the only winless team in the IPL.
