Another exciting season of the IPL 2024 has come to an end in the group stage. After just a few games, we will see the top 4 teams of this season. After some extraordinary performances, Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals have already qualified for the play-off stage. The last two spots are high in demand. There are five teams in the race to secure the spot. One of them is the Lucknow Super Giants. Their chance of qualifying is very low but still has a possibility. Let’s explore how they can appear in the top 4 places.

The Contender With Less Hope:

In the IPL 2024, the fans witnessed some intense battles between all the teams. Lucknow was one of them. They started the contest with a 20-run defeat against Rajasthan Royals. But in the second match, they bounced back and carried the same spark to the other matches after that. But the rhythm dropped in the middle of the tournament. They started facing defeats even in some easy matches. That affected their qualification scenario.

Batters struggle, bowling woes and some poor fielding shows cost them heavily in the season. Apart from some good wins, they suffered some massive losses. The defeats against Kolkata Knight Riders by 98 runs and 10 wickets defeat against Sunrisers Hyderabad minimized their hope to qualify for the playoffs because those defeats impacted heavily on their net run rate.

Defeat Against Delhi is the Biggest Setback:

Before stepping into the match against Delhi Capitals, they had a hope of qualifying for the play-off stage. They were standing on the points table with 12 points and 2 games in hand. They had a chance to score 16 points and gave better shape to their net run rate. If that were to happen, they become one of the biggest contenders in the race.

But the scenario changed as they faced a defeat against Delhi Capitals. That becomes the biggest setback for them in this season. While struggling with the ball in the first innings, their batting failure cost the match and put a question mark on their qualifying scenario. That 19-run defeat made a big impact on their net run rate which has become a big concern now. After that defeat, Lucknow Super Giants become one of the runners in the race who has the lowest chance.

The Slightest Chance to Qualify:

Following their defeat to the Delhi Capitals, Lucknow Super Giants’ net run rate has dropped to -0.787, the lowest among the four teams vying for the fourth-place spot. This poor performance nearly eliminates their chances of making the playoffs. To even have a slim chance, they need to win their final match by an extremely large margin.

Additionally, they must rely on two of the three teams—Chennai Super Kings, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Royal Challengers Bangalore—losing their remaining games by substantial margins. With 12 points from 13 matches, LSG’s latest loss to DC has severely diminished their qualification hopes. To qualify, LSG must achieve an extraordinary win by around 150 runs in their last game and hope SRH suffers significant defeats in their final two matches.
