IPL 2023: Here’s the reason why Jofra Archer is not playing today’s IPL Match against Sunrisers Hyderabad

Sunrisers Hyderabad won the toss and chose to bowl first at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Tuesday. The home team announced an unchanged playing XI while Mumbai Indians made one change. Jason Behrendorff comes in place of Duan Jansen. Moreover, the absence of Jofra Archer will be hurting MI and is a huge loss for them.

Why is Jofra Archer not playing today?

Regrettably, the right-arm fast bowler Jofra Archer is not included in the MI starting lineup for today’s IPL 2023 encounter between SRH and MI. The English pacer has not been eligible for selection since his IPL 2023 debut for the Mumbai Indians against Royal Challengers Bangalore, where he went wicketless. This is because of a shoulder injury. It is said that Archer is currently in the care of the Mumbai Indians medical staff, and it is still unknown when he will be fully fit and able to participate in selection.

MI finisher Tim David told more about the injury of Jofra Archer. “At the moment, Jof is being managed by the medical team, and I am not a part of those conversations. Whenever they have him ready to play, he will be ready to go.”

What did the captains say at the toss?

Rohit Sharma | MI captain: It’s been fantastic, 15 years IPL has come off a long way. Has gone from strength to strength, it has not only produced good players for India but globally as well. Lots of good things have happened in 15 years. We have to play good cricket. We do understand the challenges of posting a total. We’ve to assess the conditions. Duan misses out and Jason Behrendorff comes in place of him. Jason was always supposed to play, but he was not well for the last game. He’s okay to go now. (On MI’s bowling) It’s a work in progress, lot of new guys, young guys who are getting the feel of IPL

Aiden Markram | SRH captain: We are gonna bowl first. Wicket looks slightly drier, hopefully it gets better with the dew and we restrict them to a chaseable total. Not in the 16 (no changes). We’ll see how conditions play and adjust from there. Our fielding needs to improve. We are improving game by game. It’s about guys exploring options and trusting them.
