The Mumbai Indians (MI) are facing a major setback with the continued unavailability of their star pacer Jofra Archer, who will once again be missing from their upcoming match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). The team had high hopes for Archer, but his fitness concerns have prevented him from playing constantly for the franchise.
Archer under medical supervision
MI’s batting all-rounder Tim David revealed during a pre-match press conference that Archer was still under medical supervision, and he could neither confirm nor deny his availability for the match against KKR.
“At the moment Jof is being managed by the medical team and I am not a part of those conversations. Whenever they have him ready to play he will be ready to go,” Mumbai Indians batter Tim David told the media on Saturday, 15 April.
However, as the Playing XI for the match against Kolkata Knight Riders was announced, Archer’s name was found to be missing. Jofra Archer missed the team’s previous game as well due to his ongoing recovery from injury, and his continued absence has been a major setback for the 5-time champions. The team had hoped to rely on Archer’s pace and aggression to bolster their bowling attack in the absence of pacer Jasprit Bumrah, but his unavailability has forced them to look for alternative options.
MI will be hoping for a quick recovery for Archer, as they look to secure a record-extending sixth championship. The team has had a disappointing start to the season, winning just one of their three matches so far, and they will be looking to get back to winning ways against KKR at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday. Mumbai Indians are currently at the 9th spot in the points table with just 2 points in 3 games. The team management is taking a cautious approach to Archer’s fitness, and they want to ensure that he is fully fit and ready to play before they bring him back into the squad.
