IPL 2023: Here’s the Reason Why is Josh Hazlewood not playing today IPL Match 5 Against Mumbai Indians

The second game of today’s doubleheader is just minutes away. The two captains, Faf du Plessis and Rohit Sharma walked out for the toss. Faf du Plessis won the toss and invited Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians to bat first. However, the match was marred by the absence of several stars, one of which is Australian fast bowler Josh Hazlewood

Reason for Hazlewood’s absence

Australian fast bowler Josh Hazlewood’s participation in the upcoming IPL season remains uncertain as he awaits clearance from Cricket Australia regarding his fitness. Hazlewood, who is part of the Royal Challengers Bangalore team, is yet to depart for India due to an Achilles heel problem.

Today’s match for Royal Challengers Bangalore will be played without the services of their star Australian fast bowler, Josh Hazlewood. Hazlewood has been sidelined due to an injury, specifically an Achilles heel problem, which has prevented him from joining the team in India for the first leg of the upcoming IPL. It is expected that he will arrive in India by April 14, but even then, he will need an additional week to regain his match fitness.

This unfortunate setback means that Hazlewood may miss out on participating in at least 7 games before he can return to the field for Royal Challengers Bangalore. As a crucial member of the team’s bowling attack, his absence will be felt, and his return to full fitness will be eagerly anticipated by both the fans and his teammates.

Who is playing instead of Hazlewood?

Instead of Josh Hazlewood, RCB are going with England’s left-arm pacer Reece Topley. It is a special moment for Topley as he is making his IPL debut today. Topley has featured in 22 T20 internationals for England in which he has picked up 22 wickets at an economy rate of 8.3
