IPL 2023 Final: Dhoni’s lightning quick stumping leads CSK’s comeback

Ravindra Jadeja and Dhoni outsmarted Superman Gill! Jadeja missed a couple of run-out chances against Saha but managed to dismiss the rampaging Gill. Gill was beaten by a sharp away-turner delivered at a quick pace by Jadeja. MSD’s glovework was brilliant as well.

The Dismissal

Jadeja bowled to Shubman Gill, and he was stumped out! MS Dhoni was confident that he had got Gill there. The stumping appeal was referred to the third umpire, and it was confirmed that Gill was short of his ground. Dhoni’s lightning-fast work with the gloves was a sight to behold, and he showed no signs of slowing down. The ball was a flat length delivery around off stump, and Gill stretched forward to drive but was deceived by the sharp turn. As a result, his back foot dragged out of the crease, and with Dhoni in top form, he had no chance of getting back. The ball landed securely into Dhoni’s gloves, and the stumps were broken almost simultaneously, showcasing Dhoni’s incredible speed. It’s truly amazing how he continues to impress.

With this dismissal, CSK have pulled things back at the half way mark and will look to put on brakes in the chase.

If CSK triumphs in the championship game, it will be their fifth IPL triumph. On the other hand, Gujarat will try to successfully defend their title. Shubman Gill, who has three tonnes and four half-centuries, is the player to watch out for as he aims to establish his dominance one last time.
