IPL 2022 Auction: Review of Mumbai Indians

Mumbai Indians did surprise everyone at the auction initially. On the first day of IPL 2022 mega auction, they remained silent most of the times and ended up spending more than 15 crores on just one player- Ishan Kishan. The strategy was as mentioned by one of the franchise owners later to have Ishan Kishan on board anyhow as they could not retain him after retaining Suryakumar Yadav.
Mumbai Indians are all set to start a new journey and obviously they could not really rebuild the team but they tried to work on the holes. Their retained players were Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, and Kieron Pollard. They did try to cover one from each department while retaining. However, having Ishan Kishan in opening means being able to play one extra overseas player as well. The performances and skills of Ishan Kishan makes the bid worthy albeit. Dewald Brevis looked like an interesting buy to fill in the middle-order.

Mumbai’s strategy was very specific. They knew what they wanted and executed accordingly. Just like Kishan, Mumbai were stubborn for Archer and Tim David. Archer will not play this season which means Mumbai are clearly looking much ahead. Tim David was an interesting buy and Mumbai’s most expensive overseas player in the auction. They were waiting for accelerated lot and made the most of it. Daniel Sams, Tymal Mills, Fabian Allen were two fine purchases. They might miss Pandya brothers and Quinton de Kock, and also one Indian spinner.
