IPL 2021 Auction Live Coverage
A total of 292 players – 164 Indians, 125 overseas players, and 3 players from Associate Nation will be up for grab this time ahead of the 14th season of the Indian Premier League. 1114 players had registered initially out of which the franchises shortlisted 292 players. Rs 2 crore is the highest reserve price and two Indian players – Harbhajan Singh and Kedar Jadhav — and eight overseas players — Glenn Maxwell, Steve Smith, Shakib Al Hasan, Moeen Ali, Sam Billings, Liam Plunkett, Jason Roy & Mark Wood have been kept in the highest bracket. Apart from this, there are 12 players in the auction list with a base price of Rs 1.5 crore (no Indians). Hanuma Vihari and Umesh Yadav have been slotted in the Rs.1 crore category along with 9 other players.
Let’s have a look at the players retained, released, and traded by the IPL franchises before the IPL 2021 auction starts
Purse Rs 15.35 crore; 7 slots, 4 overseas
Rohit Sharma, Quinton de Kock, Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan, Chris Lynn, Anmolpreet Singh, Saurabh Tiwary, Aditya Tare, Kieron Pollard, Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya, Anukul Roy, Jasprit Bumrah, Trent Boult, Rahul Chahar, Jayant Yadav, Dhawal Kulkarni, Mohsin Khan
Lasith Malinga, Nathan Coulter Nile, James Pattinson, Sherfane Rutherford, Mitchell McCleneghan, Digvijay Deshmukh, Prince Balwant Rai
The defending champions have the most balanced and complete squad in the league. While they do not need many buys, they cannot afford much as well. Since they have all the based covered, they might look to pick an overseas pacer in place of Lasith Malinga. However, they have 4 overseas slots to fill.
Players Mumbai Indians could target in IPL Auction 2021:
Batsmen (Karun Nair, Hanuma Vihari, Tom Banton)
All-rounders (Glenn Maxwell, Moeen Ali)
Bowlers (Mustafizur Rahman, Jhye Richardson, Prithviraj Yarra).
Chennai Super Kings

Kedar Jadhav, Murali Vijay, Harbhajan Singh, Piyush Chawla, Monu Singh, Shane Watson.
Players traded in:
Robin Uthappa from Rajasthan Royals
Chennai Super Kings had a forgettable IPL, in fact the worst one in their history of the league. However, they had only released 6 players in the lead up to the mini-auction. Chennai Super Kings need a back-up opener in place of Murali Vijay. They also need a frontline pacer mainly due to Dwayne Bravo’s fitness issue. The CSK will also try to get some young guns in the auction considering the average age of the squad.
Players CSK could target in IPL Auction 2021:
Batsmen (Mohammed Azharuddeen, Karun Nair, Steve Smith)
All-rounder (Moises Henriques, Shivam Dube)
Bowlers (Umesh Yadav, Krishnappa Gowtham).
Royal Challengers Bangalore
Purse: Rs 35.4 crore; 11 slots, 3 overseas
Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, Devdutt Padikkal, Md. Siraj, Navdeep Saini, Washington Sundar, Yuzvendra Chahal, Joshua Phillipe, Pavan Deshpande, Shahbaz Ahmed, Adam Zampa, Kane Richardson.
Chris Morris, Shivam Dube, Aaron Finch, Umesh Yadav, Dale Steyn, Moeen Ali, Parthiv Patel, Pawan Negi, Isuru Udana, Gurkeerat Mann.
Players traded in: Daniel Sams and Harshal Patel from Delhi Capitals
Royal Challengers Bangalore had a decent run in IPL 2020 after a long time. Still, it chose to release 10 players in the lead up to the auction. Clearly Royal Challengers Bangalore have quite a lot to fill. They could go for an opener, all-rounders, and a back-up wicketkeeper. They need to find replacements for Umesh Yadav and Dale Steyn as well.
Players RCB could target in IPL Auction 2021:
Opener (Alex Hales, Jason Roy, Mohammed Azharuddeen),
Middle-order batsman (Karun Nair)
All-rounder (Glenn Maxwell, Shakib Al Hasan, Kyle Jamieson)
Bowlers (Mustafizur Rahman, Jason Behrendorff, Sheldon Cottrell, Jhye Richardson).
Purse: Rs 10.75 crore, 3 slots, 1 overseas
David Warner, Abhishek Sharma, Basil Thampi, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jonny Bairstow, Kane Williamson, Manish Pandey, Mohammad Nabi, Rashid Khan, Sandeep Sharma, Shahbaz Nadeem, Shreevats Goswami, Siddarth Kaul, Khaleel Ahmed, T Natarajan, Vijay Shankar, Wriddhiman Saha, Virat Singh, Priyam Garg, Mitchell Marsh, Jason Holder, Abdul Samad.
Billy Stanlake, Sandeep Bavanaka, Fabian Allen, Sanjay Yadav, Prithviraj Yarra.
With not much money left in the purse, the Hyderabad side might like to fix instability in the middle-order. They have some high-profile ones but would love to rope in a senior Indian batsman. Sunrisers Hyderabad would be hoping to get a fully fit Vijay Shankar for the whole season. They also like to focus for overseas pacer. Mustafizur Rahman could be a great option.
Players RR could target in IPL Auction 2021
Middle-order batsman (Karun Nair, Kedar Jadhav, Hanuma Vihari),
Fast bowler (Mustafizur Rahman, Jhye Richardson).
Kolkata Knight Riders
Purse: Rs 10.75 crore; 8 slots, 2 overseas
Eoin Morgan, Andre Russell, Dinesh Karthik, Kamlesh Nagarkoti, Kuldeep Yadav, Lockie Ferguson, Nitish Rana, Prasidh Krishna, Rinku Singh, Sandeep Warrier, Shivam Mavi, Shubman Gill, Sunil Narine, Pat Cummins, Rahul Tripathi, Varun Chakravarthy, Tim Seifert.
Chris Green, Harry Gurney, M Siddharth, Nikhil Naik, Siddhesh Lad, Tom Banton
Kolkata Knight Riders released only six players and look almost settled. They could think of adding a soild opener alongside Shubman Gill considering the issues they had faced last year. They could bid for a reliable finisher as well as an overseas spinner despite having a fine spin department.
Players KKR could target in IPL Auction 2021:
Batsmen (Mohammad Azharuddeen, Vishnu Solanki, Karun Nair, Abhimanyu Easwaran),
Bowlers (M Siddharth, Prithviraj Yarra, Jagadeesha Suchhith),
all-rounder (Shakib Al Hasan)
Purse: Rs 13.4 crore; 8 slots, 3 overseas
Shreyas Iyer, Ajinkya Rahane, Amit Mishra, Avesh Khan, Axar Patel, Ishant Sharma, Kagiso Rabada, Prithvi Shaw, R Ashwin, Rishabh Pant, Shikhar Dhawan, Shimron Hetmyer, Marcus Stoinis, Lalit Yadav, Anrich Nortje, Pravin Dubey, Chris Woakes.
Alex Carey, Keemo Paul, Tushar Deshpande, Sandeep Lamichhane, Mohit Sharma, Jason Roy.
Daniel Sams, Harshal Patel to Royal Challengers Bangalore
With Prithvi Shaw being inconsistent, Delhi Capitals could look for an overseas opener to support Shikhar Dhawan at the top order in place of Jason Roy. They might also be looking for a back-up for Rishabh Pant. The Capitals also need someone senior in the Indian pace department.
Players Delhi Capitals could target in IPL Auction 2021:
Batsmen (Alex Hales, Jason Roy),
Bowlers (Umesh Yadav, Prithviraj Yarra),
wicketkeeper (Sheldon Jackson, Sam BIllings).
Purse: Rs 53.2 crore; 9 slots, 5 overseas
KL Rahul, Chris Gayle, Mayank Agarwal, Nicholas Pooran, Mandeep Singh, Sarfaraz Khan, Deepak Hooda, Prabhsimran Singh, Mohammed Shami, Chris Jordan, Darshan Nalkande, Ravi Bishnoi, Murugan Ashwin, Arshdeep Singh, Harpreet Brar, Ishan Porel
Glenn Maxwell, Karun Nair, Hardus Viljoen, Jagadeesha Suchith, Mujeeb ur Rahman, Sheldon Cottrell, Jimmy Neesham, Krishnappa Gowtham, Tajinder Singh
Punjab Kings had to let go of some close matches in the last edition due to instable middle-order. With the biggest purse left, KL Rahul-led side must target a middle-order batsman and also, an all-rounder. Glenn Maxwell had given the side a tough time and now they need someone in place of the Australian. Punjab Kings will also need a specialist bowler for the death overs.
Players Punjab could Target in IPL Auction 2021
Batsmen (Shahrukh Khan, Dawid Malan),
All-rounders (Moises Henriques, Shakib Al Hasan, Tom Curran)
Bowlers ( Prithviraj Yarra, Jalaj Saxena, Piyush Chawla, Jhye Richardson)
Purse: Rs 37.85 crore; 9 slots, 3 overseas

Steve Smith, Varun Aaron, Tom Curran, Ankit Rajpoot, Aniruddha Joshi, Shashank Singh, Oshane Thomas, Akash Singh
Robin Uthappa to Chennai Super Kings
Rajasthan Royals need a senior batsman in their batting line-up heavily dependent on Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes. Even a cover for Jofra Archer is much needed in the bowling department as Archer tens to be injury-prone. The Royals should also look for some spinner as well. Their need of good finisher can be fulfilled well with whatever options they have in hand albeit now.
Players they could target in IPL Auction 2021:
Batsmen (Alex Hales, Shahrukh Khan),
All-rounders ( Shakib Al Hasan, Shivam Dube, Chris Morris)
Bowlers (Umesh Yadav, Kyle Jamieson).Live TV
