IPL 2020 Auction: Focus area for Sunrisers Hyderabad

For the last four seasons in IPL, Sunrisers Hyderabad have been one of the most consistent teams. Since their maiden IPL win in 2016 they have made to the playoffs every time. This is a commendable record and they can boast of strong bowling led by Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Rashid Khan

However, their young fast bowlers Khaleel Ahmed and Siddarth Kaul played a significant number of matches for India but could not make any strong case for themselves. The team management will look to get good support for their key bowlers and can opt for bowling options like Jayadev Unadkat and Piyush Chawla from the experienced Indian players available for the league. They also have the options for Australian bowlers like Andrew Tye, Anrich Nortje, and Chris Morris. They had a great spin bowling line-up with Rashid Khan, Mohammad Nabi and Shakib Al Hasan that will miss Shakib’s all-round skill in the middle order. Except for Chawla they can look for some of the overseas spinners like Hayden Walsh Jr who had a great CPL and can be the leg-spinning back up for Rashid Khan. Rahkeem Cornwall can be another good pick in the auction who can provide all-round support.

Sunrisers have a wonderful top order where David Warner and Jonny Bairstow proved themselves to be one of the most successful opening combinations of IPL 2019. Almost in every match, they provided a quick-fire start and then they were followed by Kane Williamson and Manish Pandey, two Ideal batsmen for the middle overs in T20.

However, they have released three of their key middle orders players in Shakib Al Hasan, Yousuf Pathan, and Deepak Hooda and so will look to completely modify their middle order to bring some more fire powers. Some of the ready options can be Eoin Morgan, the English captain who has vast experience of playing in IPL for multiple teams. They can go for some other overseas choices like Heinrich Klassen, Shimron Hetmyer, and Ashton Turner or look for the Indian options like Rahul Tripathi or Robin Uthappa.

With a purse of 17 Crore INR, Sunrisers are the team with the third-lowest budget in the IPL auction and hence they need to bid intelligently during the auction on 19th December.
