IPL 2019: Mitchell Starc released by Kolkata Knight Riders

Australia’s Mitchell Starc is one of the most injury prone cricketers in the world. He is regarded as one of the best pacers of the generation. But his career has taken a hit due to multiple injuries. In the recent development, the franchise Kolkata Knight Riders have released him from the squad for IPL 2019.

Last year, KKR roped in Starc from the auction at a whopping bid of INR 9.4 crores. But he couldn’t take part in the tournament due to a tibial bone stress fracture. Apart from this, he has encountered several other injuries in his career. As per reports in www.cricket.com.au, he has been released from the squad. There’s also an uncertainty about his participation for IPL 2019.

“I guess barring a little niggle in my hammy I’ve felt pretty good with my body and my strength and the rest of it. That little period of time has really paid off for the body. If I don’t play the IPL next year it’s a good opportunity to freshen up for a massive six months of cricket in the UK,” Starc mentioned.

An SMS informed Starc of his exclusion

It has also been learned that Mitchell Starc was informed by KKR via an SMS. But the left-hander relishes the opportunity to rest before the ICC ODI World Cup 2019 that will take place after the IPL.

I got a text message two days ago from the owners of Kolkata saying I’ve been released from my contract. At the moment I’ll be home in April. I obviously didn’t go last year with my tibia injury and it was a great opportunity to freshen the body up, let everything heal by itself,” Starc was quoted as saying.
