IPL 2019: Ashton Turner joins RR squad before RCB game, Steve Smith’s place in danger

Rajasthan Royals have had a dismal time in the 12th edition of the Indian Premier League so far. They have lost all the 3 games and are desperately in the need to turn things around. The RR camp will be boosted now as Ashton Turner has joined the squad before the match against Royal Challengers Bangalore on Tuesday.

If you are a fan of Indian cricket, then, you would fondly remember Ashton Turner. The Australian batsman had recently played a scintillating knock in the 4th ODI against India in Mohali. Chasing a massive total of 359 to win, the visitors found themselves at 229/4 in the 37th over when Turner walked out to bat.

The visitors soon lost the centurion Peter Handscomb and India was in the driver’s seat. But Ashton Turner took matters into his own hands and played a superb knock. He smashed every Indian bowler and ended up scoring 84 from just 43 balls that included 5 fours and 6 sixes. Australia chased down the score with 13 balls in hand.

He immediately grabbed the eyeballs and especially, the RR fans were elated when they found out that Turner was in their squad for IPL 2019. He was in the Australian team that was featured in the ODI series against Pakistan in UAE. Now that the series is over, the right-hander has joined the Royals’ squad.

Ashton Turner Joins RR and They gave a Royal welcome to Him

Rajasthan Royals announced his arrival with a welcome tweet. On Twitter, they wrote, “He has a habit of turning heads wherever he plays. 😉 Royals, @ashtonturner_70 has arrived in Jaipur! 💗 #HallaBol”

It remains to be seen whether he would be slotted in the playing XI straight away. The player whose place will be in threat due to Turner’s arrival is his own countryman. Steve Smith has scores of 20 and 28 in 2 innings and hasn’t made much of an impact yet. Turner could well take Smith’s place if the latter keeps underperforming.
