India is set to play its only T20 World Cup warmup game against Bangladesh on June 1 at a makeshift stadium with a 34,000 capacity in Eisenhower Park, New York. According to ICC rules, teams typically play two warmup matches before their first tournament game. However, due to the IPL 2024 final scheduled for May 26, Indian players will arrive in the USA later than usual.
A BCCI source revealed that, “The scheduling has been really tight for this World Cup and could have been handled better. You needed a longer gap between the IPL final and the World Cup opener. Teams like Pakistan and England will also be playing a bilateral series 24 hours before the tournament starts.”
Some New Faced in the Tournament:
This edition of the T20 World Cup will feature a record 20 teams, complicating the scheduling. Previously, only 16 teams competed in Australia last season. Newcomers USA, Canada, and Uganda will make their T20 World Cup debuts. India’s warmup match in New York will offer valuable insight into the playing conditions, helping them prepare effectively for the tournament.
India will start their T20 World Cup journey on June 5 against Ireland. The biggest match of the tournament will be showcased on June 9. On that day, India will face Pakistan in New York. fans are anticipating another successful tournament for team India.
