India Strengthens Lead in WTC 2023-25 Table with Series Victory Over England

India registered a clinical series win against England in the Dharamshala Test. After facing a setback in the first Test, Team India made an amazing comeback. They won four consecutive wins and hammered England by a 4-1 margin. In the fourth Test match, India registered a huge win of one innings and 64 runs. After this win, they shattered the WTC Points Table.

India’s Marvelous Win:

Securing an unassailable 3-1 lead, India penned a formidable chapter in Bazball’s narrative during the fifth and final Test against England. Dominating the visitors, the home side, led by Rohit Sharma, clinched victory by an innings and 64 runs, culminating in the series finale within three days. England, under Ben Stokes, faced only their second innings defeat in the Bazball era, with India displaying a ruthless performance, seemingly leaving the English side eager to return home.

Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill‘s centuries, coupled with a spin-bowling masterclass from R Ashwin and Kuldeep Yadav, ensured India’s dominance and quashed England’s hopes of a consolation win in Dharamsala. The resounding victory added salt to England’s wounds in the context of the World Test Championship final race.

In his 100th Test, R Ashwin delivered a stellar performance with a 5-wicket haul, while Jasprit Bumrah, standing in for an injured Rohit Sharma, dismantled the lower order, restricting England to 197 in the final innings. England’s batting struggles, lasting less than 60 overs in both innings, marked the series’ first third-day finish. Joe Root emerged as the lone warrior, showcasing resilience with a hundred in Ranchi and an 84 in the final innings in Dharamsala, underscoring the missed opportunities for England due to inconsistent performances by the team.

Despite their bold attacking approach, England faltered in the Bazball era, losing eight matches, including the series against India. The initial series opener win in Hyderabad had increased pressure on Rohit Sharma’s India, but the home side rebounded remarkably to claim victory in the series 4-1. The turnaround showcased India’s resilience against adversity, dealing a blow to England’s much-discussed attacking strategy and solidifying India’s standing in the Bazball era.

Updated Points Table:

Following a setback in the opening Test in Hyderabad, the Indian team bounced back, clinching victories in the remaining four matches and accumulating six Test wins in this WTC cycle. Meanwhile, England stands at eighth place in the table, registering three wins, one draw, and six losses in their 10 Tests this cycle.
