“If We Could Buy Some Confidence At The Minute We Would Spend a Lot of Money On It”, Says Chris Woakes After England’s Losing Streak At 5

ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup hosts, India stands as the only team which remains unbeaten currently, acquiring top-most position in the table having won 6 out of 6 matches the team has played since the commencement of the tournament. While on the other side, last time defending champions, England is on the brink of World Cup 2023 elimination following a heavy loss of defeat against India yesterday, in Lucknow taking their losing streak to 5.

After having won the toss, England decided to bowl first with India delivering a convincing target of 230. The loss came down heavily on the English men as they were restricted to a paltry score of 129 with all wickets down at just 34.5 overs. This loss literally proved to shatter all their hopes they had been holding for making it to the semi-finals of the World Cup 2023.

Lack of Confidence on England’s part

After a heavy defeat against World Cup Favourites India, England cricketer Chris Woakes went on to assert that the players haven’t held up the needed confidence level remarking “If we could buy some confidence at the minute we would spend a lot of money on it. It’s hard to bottle that up. When you haven’t got confidence then you tend to play some rash shots or make some indecisions.”

Woakes went on further adding that “It’s easy to look back at hindsight and we should maybe have gone more tentative or sensible. We need to build partnerships to get close to that score and we did not do it.”

Looking up to next matches

After a slumping defeat by a margin of 100 runs, England will play its next match against Australia on November 4 in Ahmedabad, though it seems that they are almost out of the tournament looking at their performance in the matches they have played so far. On the other hand, India will face Sri Lanka in its next on November 2 at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium.
