Shreyas Iyer partially dislocated his shoulder during fielding in the first ODI against England. He is expected to remain outside cricket field for next six to eight weeks. Iyer who took Delhi Capitals to the IPL 2020 final as a captain, might miss the league this time following this sudden injury. In absence of Iyer, the Capitals need to find a replacement who can do the job well.
Rishabh Pant
This name could be a surprise to many. But Rishabh Pant has been a part of the side since 2016 which means he knows the core better than most of the DC members. The Capitals have trusted the youngster for years and hence promoting him to the next role should be an easier process. He already captained Delhi domestic side in the past. Moreover, Pant has played 68 matches to score 2079 runs at an average of 35.23 and a strike rate of 151.97. Undoubtedly, he has enough experience of being able to lead the side he has been part of so long.
Ravichandran Ashwin
Ravichandran Ashwin is undoubtedly one of best and smartest cricketing minds around. His analytical skill is unparallel and by now we are aware of it. Ashwin has experience of captaining the Punjab Kings in the 2019 IPL as well. As a player there should not be any doubt about the credibility of Ashwin. Although he has not done well as an IPL skipper, he can easily be trusted with one more opportunity for the captaincy of Delhi Capitals. With experience of 154 IPL matches where he scalped 138 wickets Ravi Ashwin is one of the seniors around with great leadership skill too.
Shikhar Dhawan
Dhawan had captained the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the past. Shikhar Dhawan also has the experience of captaining Delhi Capitals. He captained the side in absence of injured Shreyas Iyer. This edition could be another chance for Dhawan to work as the Capitals skipper in case Iyer is not available for the league.The stylish opener was the second highest run-scorer with over 600 runs. Dhawan’s approach to the game along with his experience can make the campaign smoother for the youngsters.
