ICC World Cup 2019: Team India To Wear Orange Jersey Against England

Indian National Cricket Team is fondly called ‘Men in Blue’ for decades. Fans are habituated to see their famous stars in shades of Blue. 1992 World Cup was the first World Cup with coloured jerseys. Since then Indian cricket has always sported some shade of blue and this has been their identity in limited over game. But in this World Cup there will be a change as Virat and co. will be seen in Orange jerseys according to the reports.

Team India To Wear Orange Jersey

According to ICC regulations for this tournament, eight nations will have the alternate jersey. Only the hosts- England and Wales are allowed to retain one jersey for the entire tournament. On June 30 India will be facing the hosts, England at Edgbaston in Birmingham. England crickets will also be wearing the blue jersey. This may disturb the visuals and audience can face difficulties to identify the players. So India, according to ICC rules, will be wearing their alternate jersey in Orange colour. The idea is to avoid the clash between jersey colours. Since it will be an away match for India, Virat and team will go for the alternate option.

Alternate Jersey For All

New Agency IANS shared a picture of the proposed alternate jersey for Team India, but BCCI has not revealed anything officially. For Afghanistan, the alternate jersey colour will be red and they will wear it against Sri Lanka, England, and India.  Bangladesh will wear red against Pakistan. South Africa were wearing gold against Bangladesh and will be featured in the same jersey against Pakistan. Sri Lanka will wear yellow against England and India. According to ICC media guide, the umpire will also have few changes in their clothing.  “Umpires will wear a pink shirt in all matches except those matches involving West Indies, Afghanistan in red or Bangladesh in red. In those matches, a black shirt will be worn. For the West Indies-Afghanistan match, a pink shirt will be worn.”
