ICC Rankings Shakeup: Chapman Soars, Afridi Climbs After T20I Series Thriller

The latest ICC Men’s T20I Player Rankings update reflects the thrilling ongoing five-match series between New Zealand and Pakistan, currently tied 1-1 after three matches. Players from both teams have seen their rankings improve after impactful performances.

New Zealand Batters Shine: Chapman Makes Big Leap

Left-handed New Zealand batsman Mark Chapman is the biggest mover in the rankings. His blistering knock of 87 runs off just 42 balls in the third T20I propelled him a staggering 12 places to the 33rd position. This inning showcased Chapman’s aggressive batting style and his ability to score quickly.

Chapman wasn’t the only New Zealand batsman to benefit from the rankings update. Tim Seifert, the wicketkeeper-batter, climbed three spots to 24th, while leg-spinner Ish Sodhi moved up five places to 18th. These advancements highlight the consistent contributions of both players throughout the series.

Afridi’s Pace Earns Him Ranking Boost

Pakistan’s left-arm pace spearhead Shaheen Afridi also saw a rise in his ranking. His impressive bowling performance in the second T20I, where he claimed three wickets for just 13 runs, helped him climb two spots to 17th position. Afridi’s ability to generate swing and pace continues to be a valuable asset for the Pakistani bowling attack.

The rankings update wasn’t limited to the New Zealand-Pakistan series. Dipendra Singh Airee of Nepal became the fourth player from his nation to crack the top 50 in the Men’s T20I Batting Rankings. His unbeaten 44-run knock against Hong Kong in the ACC Men’s Premier Cup secured him a spot in the 50th position.  Airee also holds the highest ranking for a Nepalese all-rounder, currently sitting at 11th.

Other Notable Climbers

Several other players from the ACC Men’s Premier Cup also witnessed improvements in their rankings. Hong Kong’s Anshuman Rath rose seven places to 70th among batters, while the United Arab Emirates’ Alishan Sharafu jumped 29 spots to 88th. Nepal’s Sompal Kami, a fast bowler, climbed 16 places to 92nd in the bowling rankings.

With both New Zealand and Pakistan boasting in-form players according to the updated rankings, the remaining matches of the T20I series promise to be exciting encounters. The series serves as a crucial preparation for both teams leading into upcoming international tournaments. Cricket fans will be eagerly watching to see if Chapman, Afridi, and other rising stars can maintain their impressive form..
