ICC Ranking Reshuffle: Root Back in Top 3, Jaiswal Makes Strides in Tests

The latest ICC rankings update saw significant movement across formats, with former England captain Joe Root returning to the top three in the Test batting rankings. Meanwhile, India’s young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal continued his impressive run, climbing into the top 12.

Root’s Resurgence and Jaiswal’s Meteoric Rise

Root, who previously held the top spot, displayed his batting prowess with an unbeaten 122 in the first innings of the fourth Test against India. This stellar performance propelled him up two places to the coveted third position. Additionally, his all-round abilities were recognized with a three-spot rise to fourth in the all-rounders’ rankings.

Jaiswal, who began the series ranked a lowly 69th, has been on a tear. His scores of 73 and 37 in the fourth Test propelled him a remarkable three spots to 12th in the rankings, showcasing his consistent batting form.

Jurel and Crawley See Ranking Boosts

Dhruv Jurel, the Player of the Match for India in the Ranchi Test, saw his impressive scores of 90 and 39 translate to a significant rise of 31 places, landing him at 69th in the rankings. England opener Zak Crawley also enjoyed a rankings boost, entering the top 20 for the first time after contributions of 42 and 60.

The dominance of spin bowling was evident in the rankings update. Ravichandran Ashwin‘s five-wicket haul in the second innings narrowed the gap between him and the top-ranked Jasprit Bumrah to just 21 rating points. Kuldeep Yadav‘s ten-place jump to 32nd and Shoaib Bashir’s career-best ranking of 80th, up 38 places, further highlight the impact of spin in the Test arena.

Scholtz Makes History for Namibia in ODI Rankings

The ODI rankings witnessed Namibia’s Bernard Scholtz rewrite history. His impressive bowling performances, including four for 31 against Nepal and two for 15 against the Netherlands, propelled him to a career-best 11th position with 642 rating points. This achievement marks the highest ranking and points tally ever achieved by a Namibian player in ODI cricket.

The Netherlands’ Aryan Dutt built upon his successful previous week, taking two for 41 and three for 16 to maintain his upward trajectory in the bowling rankings, reaching a joint-36th position. Furthermore, Namibia‘s captain Gerhard Erasmus, with his contributions of 52 runs and three wickets, secured a place among the top 10 all-rounders for the first time in his career.

Head and David Impress in T20Is

The T20I rankings saw movement in the batting department. Australian batter Travis Head, with scores of 24, 45, and 33 in the series against New Zealand, entered the top 20 for the first time.

Additionally, Tim David‘s explosive knock of 31 runs off just 10 balls in the first match propelled him six places to 22nd, pushing him past the 600-point mark for the first time in his career. The top six bowlers remained unchanged, with Josh Hazlewood joining the top 10 after his impressive figures of 4-1-12-1 in Auckland.
