ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 warm-up fixtures announced

The ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 warm-up fixtures have been announced by the International Cricket Council on Thursday. The warm-up matches will take place from May 24 to May 28. Each of the 10 teams will get to play 2 matches before the actual tournament starts.

Bristol, Cardiff, Southampton and The Oval will be the venues for the warm-up matches. Pakistan will take on Afghanistan while Sri Lanka will face South Africa in the opening day. India is scheduled to play against New Zealand on May 25 at the Oval. The Sophia Gardens, Cardiff will host India’s second game against Bangladesh on May 28.

“It is always a huge milestone announcing an exciting warm-up schedule for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup as it really highlights just how close we are to the action getting underway this summer,” Steve Elworthy, tournament managing director said as quoted by Cricbuzz.

“These games provide another fantastic opportunity for fans to see world-class players at their local venue and allows the tournament to engage local schools and communities with another chance to get involved with the Cricket World Cup,” he added.

ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 warm-up fixtures will not have the official ODI status. Teams will be allowed to field all the 15 members of the squad. Before the real tournament, it will be a great opportunity for the teams to get a feel of the English conditions.
