Just a few days left before the T20 World Cup. Team India has already announced their squad for the upcoming T20 tournament. Surprisingly, Shubman Gill who even opened for India in the ODI World Cup 2023 has been snubbed from the T20 World Cup squad. Yashasvi Jaiswal has been selected over him. In the IPL 2024, Jaiswal had an amazing season. On the flip side, Gill struggled a bit with the bat and then made a remarkable comeback. In the 2024 IPL season, Gill scored 426 runs with a high score of 104, averaging 38.73 and boasting a strike rate of 147.40. He secured one century and two half-centuries. In the 2024 IPL season, Jaiswal played 15 matches, scoring 435 runs with an unbeaten high score of 104. He averaged 31.07 with a remarkable strike rate of 155.91. Gill secured one century and one half-century.

Former England captain Eoin Morgan expressed concern over Gill’s exclusion from the Indian squad, suggesting that Gill, a potential future India captain, should have been included instead of Jaiswal. He said, “The only decision I would have had differently and if I was selecting the squad, I would have Shubman Gill over Yashasvi Jaiswal. I have played alongside him, I know how he thinks. I know how he works.”

Later he added, “ I feel he’s a future leader within that side and I think in big moments, in World Cups the more leaders the better. Even if he’s sitting on the sideline, you still need inspiration from here and there, a sense of positivity.”

Morgan on India’s Squad:

In the last ODI World Cup in 2023, India faced a heartbreaking defeat in the final match against Australia. Before stepping into the T20 World Cup, they have announced a strong squad. Rohit Sharma is once again set to lead the team. With Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, Yuzvendra Chahal, and some rising youngsters, India is set to face the challenges.

Former England skipper Eion Morgan also thinks India named a strong squad. While talking about this, he said, “The strongest side even with injuries throughout the tournament is India. Their strength and depth is absolutely incredible.”

Later he added, “And it’s almost probably, we’re talking about who the players that were missed out in their squad of 15 because of the quality that they possess. They are favourites for me, the quality they have on paper, if they produce it I think they can beat anybody quite well in the tournament.”
