Riyan Parag burst onto the IPL scene in 2019, facing scrutiny for his inconsistent form and criticized demeanor. However, the current season paints a different picture as he shines brightly. With a newfound vigor, he commands attention, eyeing a potential call-up to the Indian squad. Recently, he opened up about Virat Kohli’s influence on his career. He said, “In my second year, I was having a bad phase in the IPL. I was discussing with him on how to get out of that phase and how he used to handle similar situations, so I can learn from his experience as well.”
Later he added, “He gave me a good 10-15 minutes of his time and shared a few things with me, I think that really helped me.”
On the First IPL Season:
Reflecting on his IPL debut in 2019, Parag described the moment as surreal. Stepping onto the field to bat against Chennai Super Kings, he found himself in the presence of the legendary Mahendra Singh Dhoni, a few feet away. The experience was awe-inspiring, as the young cricketer soaked in the atmosphere and embraced the opportunity to showcase his talent on the grand stage alongside one of cricket’s icons.
Riyan said, “It was a surreal feeling. I don’t really remember how I was exactly feeling but I was nervous for sure. Playing against CSK, going in to bat, with Dhoni behind the wicket, was a surreal moment for sure, I’ll never forget that. I was more excited than nervous and enjoyed every bit of it.”
