Robin Uthappa’s View on India’s Squad:

During the pre-match show for the IPL 2024, former India batter Robin Uthappa discussed the topic. Kiwi ex-cricketer Scott Styris inquired if present Indian senior players in the T20I side should take a similar step after the upcoming T20 World Cup. being on the same page with the Kiwi cricketer, Uthappa said, “I’m gonna catch a lot of flak for this, but I’ll take it. I think they should’ve moved on after the previous World Cup itself.”

Later he added, “I think the youngsters should’ve played in this World Cup. The senior players have had their go, and these guys are showing true potential. The fact that they’ve been performing in IPL consistently… a lot of these guys who are performing now, the likes of Shubman Gill should be there.”

The Former Indian Batter on Gill:

Shubman Gill, the talented Indian opener, was not selected in the 15-member squad for the World Cup. Equally surprising was the exclusion of Rinku Singh, who had been a regular in T20I matches over the past year. Both have been named as the reserve player. In the last ODI World Cup, Gill was in amazing form. He has shown his consistency. Even in the ongoing IPL, he has scored an amazing century. Butt still he missed the spot in the main squad of the T20 World Cup.

While talking about this, he said, “He (Gill) should be part of any World Cup right now. The potential, the ability, the hunger he has got in his own game and what he wants to achieve is tremendous. The opportunity for all of that should be present. They should get the opportunity at the highest stage, like the World Cup.”
