The start of the T20 World Cup 2024 has not been a desired one for Pakistan. The team faced constant setbacks. They lost two almost-win matches. In the first match, they faced the USA and faced a defeat in super over. That was a close game. The most heartbreaking defeat came against India as they failed to chase a low total. After that, they faced harsh criticism.

Former Pakistan cricketer Shahid Afridi suggested changes to Pakistan’s batting order, proposing Fakhar Zaman open the innings, while Babar Azam shifts to the third position. He said, “I think now is the time for Gary Kirsten and Babar Azam to make some changes. I would like to see Salman Ali Agha come into the side in place of Usman Khan and Abrar Ahmed to come in for Shadab Khan. Most of all, I believe Fakhar Zaman should be promoted to open the innings alongside Mohammad Rizwan, with Babar dropping down to number three.”

Time For Some Necessary Calls:

Additionally, Shahid Afridi pointed out that the management will face difficult decisions ahead. However, he expressed optimism for Pakistan, stating that they still have a chance in the tournament and haven’t been eliminated yet. He said, “There are some tough conversations and choices to come but we need to remember that there is still hope: Pakistan are not out of the tournament yet.”

After India’s exciting win over Pakistan, Afridi praised their team effort. He said, “The key difference between the two teams was India’s consistency, self-belief, discipline and attitude on the field. The Pakistan batting line-up simply isn’t clicking and what we saw was a weak display of power-hitting.”
