I think he will take that forward to the Indian team: Ravi Shastri’s take on Hardik

Ravi Shastri believes that Hardik Pandya will have the right mindset and clear understanding when he gets to handle the Indian T20I side eventually. Former Indian cricket team coach also said that Hardik’s role with Gujarat Titans makes it evident that he would be able to take things forward for Team India.

Ravi Shastri on Hardik Pandya as captain

Hardik Pandya has impressed one and all with his captaincy ability in the IPL. He is leading the newly formed IPL team Gujarat Titans for last two seasons and the performances of Gujarat have been incredible so far. Hardik who has led the side in absence of Rohit Sharma is on the good books of Ravi Shastri as well.

Speaking of Hardik’s captaincy, Shastri said on ESPNcricinfo’s RunOrder, “Hardik Pandya will get it right in terms of role clarity. He will know where he wants his six bowlers including himself and that’s very important. Just seeing the way he has captained Gujarat Titans, you can see that there is a player for a number and there is a role as well. So, I think he will take that forward to the Indian team.”

Why is Hardik the right man?

So far, Hardik has led Indian cricket team across 11 matches and won eight while lost two. Ravi Shastri further added, “If you want to win, you should not be scared of losing. You are bound to lose in going for that win. India should pick players on the basis of current form, who’s hot at the moment and also where he has got the runs.”

The senior player like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Dinesh Karthik, Ravichandran Ashwin, Bhuvneshwar Kumar may not be the key aspects for the BCCI whilst planning for India’s T20I future. Expert like Ravi Shastri therefore believes that Hardik could be the right man for the job. He explained, “It should not be a guy, that bats at No.3 or No.4 for his franchise, and suddenly you make him bat at 6 or open the innings. It should be the right man for the right number.”
