In the just concluded 2023 World Cup, Virat Kohli smashed a total of 765 runs, with 3 centuries and 6 half centuries in a total of 11 matches. He also registered his 50th ODI century against New Zealand on the day of semi-final match breaking legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 49 ODI centuries.The 35-year old batsman also won the Player of the Tournament award for his brilliant contribution to the game for team India as the Men in Blue remained undefeated until the finals.

Former South African skipper Faf du Plessis heaped praise on Virat Kohli for an outstanding World Cup campaign he had in the marquee event. In a show named First Sports Show, Plessis asserted “First of all, he had an incredible World Cup, didn’t he. I could almost predict that you could see the way he was, the energy he had before the tournament, the hunger for a World Cup at home. Things like that always play a big part.”

He further stated “The kind of player that you are, how hungry you are, Virat actually shows that, leads from the front. I am really chuffed for him for the World Cup he had.”

Du Plessis also spoke about his friendship with Virat Kohli, and that he holds a good relationship with Virat Kohli as he joined RCB ahead of the IPL 2022. Plessis stated “We have got a really good relationship. He is an important part of RCB and the think tank around. There’s a lot of behind the scenes that goes around planning, talking and it’s not always using up Virat’s time for that because he is playing so much. Virat is an important part of discussions regarding RCB.”
