Hilton Moreeng Steps Down as South Africa Women’s Coach After 11-Year Reign

An era ended in the Cricket South Africa. Hilton Moreeng, the coach of the South African Women’s team has come to the end of his 11-year-long coaching career. After being appointed the coach, the team achieved several milestones and created a lot of memories. His exciting career ended. Morreng’s Journey:

After 11 years of coaching, Hilton Moreeng bids farewell to his position as head coach as his contract ends in the 2023/24 season. His departure precedes the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 set for Bangladesh in October. Moreeng took over as South Africa Women’s coach in 2013, leading them through professional transitions. Under his guidance, the team achieved notable milestones, including two ODI World Cup semi-finals and two T20 World Cup semi-finals. They also became the first national senior side to reach a World Cup final in 2023. In all three formats, he guided the team in a total of 279 matches.

During Moreeng’s tenure, the South Africa Women secured 84 victories out of 149 ODI matches. In T20Is, the team clinched 60 wins out of 127 games. His departure marks the end of an era filled with significant successes for the South African women’s cricket team.

Morreng’s Words:

After ending his exciting coaching career, he opened up. He said, “It has been an honour and a privilege to lead such a talented group of athletes over the years. I want to express my sincere appreciation to all the players and team management who have been instrumental in this journey. I am grateful to have had the opportunity to work alongside each of you.”

Later he added, “I would also like to thank the South African fans and the media for their unwavering support throughout this journey. Your encouragement has been a constant source of motivation.”

South Africa is all set to travel to India for a series. Former first-class cricketer Dillon du Preez will step in temporarily as South Africa’s head coach for their tour of India. He will fill the position until a permanent replacement is appointed.
