In a thrilling encounter at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, Jos Buttler‘s unbeaten century powered Rajasthan Royals (RR) to a stunning victory against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the IPL 2024. Buttler’s innings of 100* off 58 balls not only guided RR to their target of 184 with five balls to spare but also showcased his return to form in the IPL after a series of low scores.
The match started with RCB setting a competitive total of 183/3 in their 20 overs, courtesy of Virat Kohli‘s magnificent unbeaten knock of 113 runs off 72 balls. Kohli’s innings, which included 12 fours and four sixes, helped RCB post a challenging total on the board. Yuzvendra Chahal was the pick of the bowlers for RR, taking two crucial wickets.
In response, RR got off to a solid start, with Sanju Samson and Jos Buttler forming a strong partnership. Samson scored a quickfire 50, setting the stage for Buttler’s heroics later in the innings. Despite losing a few wickets in the middle overs, Buttler held his nerve and batted sensibly to guide his team to victory.
The match came down to the wire, with RR needing one run to win off the final over. Buttler, who was batting on 94 at the time, needed six runs to reach his century. With calmness and composure, Buttler smashed a six off Cameron Green‘s bowling to bring up his hundred and seal the victory for RR.

Buttler credited Shimron Hetmyer for his match-winning six, revealing that Hetmyer had advised him to target the deep midwicket boundary. “I think Hety’s celebration was better than the shot. He actually told me, go across your stumps and hit it over there. You have got to hit a six,” Buttler said.
Speaking after the match, Buttler expressed his happiness at contributing to the team’s success and thanked the RR fans for their support. “Played for Rajasthan for a long time, lots of support and it is great that everyone is wishing you to do well and really happy to contribute to the team and keep the good start we have had to this season,” he said.
With this victory, RR maintained their unbeaten streak in the IPL 2024 and continued their strong start to the season. Buttler’s century will not only boost his confidence but also provide a much-needed impetus to RR’s campaign in the tournament.
