Just a few hours left for the upcoming IPL 2024 final. Another thrilling edition of the tournament is about to end the journey. But the final showdown is waiting to be stage. After having a fantastic season with ups and downs, Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad are preparing ard to face each other in an intense clash on the final stage. This year, KKR’s journey was nothing short of mesmerizing. Before facing Sunrisers Hyderabad in the final match, the KKR skipper opened up about mentor Gautam Gambhir’s influence in this season.
Kolkata Knight Riders’s Dominating Journey:
The two-time champion side was not in their prime form in the previous few season. In the 2022 mega auction, Kolkata Knight Riders bought Shreyas Iyer and appointed him as the captain. That year didn’t well. In 2023, the skipper missed the entire IPL because of an injury. But before starting the 2024 season, the management made an amazing change. Gautam Gambhir joined the team as the mentor. That was a game-changing move.
From the season’s first game, KKR displayed excellence in batting, bowling, and fielding. Their hard work and dedication paid off, securing their place in the final. Throughout the season, Sunil Narine, Andre Russell, Phill Salt, Mitchell Starc, Harshit Rana and Varun Chakravarthy were the biggest hopes of the team. Venkatesh Iyer and Rinku Singh’s contribution just can’t be overlooked. The synergy of the Iyer-Gambhir duo, coupled with head coach Chandrakant Pandit’s guidance, propelled KKR to the IPL 2024 final after defeating SRH in Qualifier 1.
Shreyas’s Appreciation for Gambhir:
Before the big game, Iyer was asked about leading two IPL teams to the finals and Gambhir’s impact on shaping KKR. The captain responded with a cheeky remark before praising Gambhir’s significant contributions. Iyer said, “The hype is definitely created by you guys. Where I stand is definitely upon you. But talking about Gautam bhai, he has got immense knowledge about how the game is played, has won two titles previously with KKR, and his strategies have been spot on in terms of what we have to execute against our opponents. He adds a lot of cream to the team and hopefully we continue the same momentum in the final.”
KKR, topping the table with nine wins in 14 games, enters the match against SRH with confidence. Having beaten the 2016 champions twice this season, including a thrilling four-run victory in their opener on March 23, they aim for another win. Cummins, determined to outshine Shreyas and his team, adds to the excitement of the upcoming clash.
