Harry Brook masterclass ton helps SRH put on a mammoth 228 on the board

Harry Brook shut off his critics with a brilliant hundred against the Kolkata Knight Riders. Opening the innings, Brook produced a T20 batting masterclass as he was merciless against every type of bowler. This is the first hundred in this edition of the Indian Premier League.

Brook was slotted to open the innings for the last 2 games. This was a clever move by the SRH team management as he is destructive against pace. He wasn’t connecting well when he was played in the middle order. He had a bad run thus far, playing on unfavorable surfaces for batters, but he spotted a belter of a wicket here with modest boundaries and pounced on it.

The new ball bowling from KKR was terrible. Dre Russ, who had not yet bowled this season, entered the game and struck on the first and last balls of his opening over. Aiden Markram accepted responsibility for the attack since Brook was using spin in a defensive manner, and he attacked with authority. Despite Brook’s early success, Brook outscored him for his fifty.

Harry Brook stats

Brook vs pace: 66 off 26, strike rate 253.84

Brook vs spin: 34 off 28, strike rate 117.24

Total: 100 off 55 not out

After winning the toss and deciding to bowl first, the Sunrisers Hyderabad put on a display. Harry Brook, the team’s captain, scored an unblemished 100 off 55 balls, while Aiden Markram scored 50 in 26 balls and Abhishek Sharma hammered 32 off 17 balls to take the lead. Heinrich Klaasen contributed as well, scoring an unblemished 16 from six balls. Andre Russell led KKR in wickets for them with three, but he needed assistance leaving the ground after bowling the opening ball of the third over.

The spinners for KKR posed the most threat. Sunrisers also defeated them twice. In the powerplay, Brook first used their quicks, forcing them to turn to Narine and Chakravarthy earlier than they would have otherwise.

When Brook started to have trouble resisting spin, Markram turned his attention to them, and that is when the game transformed. KKR weren’t prepared for that. At the time, they believed they had the game under control. Because Brook failed to record a single boundary between overs 7 and 14.

Whenever the pace picked up again, Brook went after Lockie Ferguson, knocking him for 23 runs in one over. Narine fell to Abhishek. Sunrisers never allowed KKR to have a minute of peace. It was exquisite, intelligent, and smart.

KKR have a herculean task at hand with 229 to chase. They need another Rinku Singh special along with crucial contributions from other batters.
