Speaking to the media, Harbhajan stated, “Coaching India is about man management, not about teaching players how to drive and pull. They know it very well. You can give some guidance to them. Cricket has given me so much and if I get a chance to give it back, I would be more than happy.”

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently announced the invitation for applications for the head coach position, with the tenure starting from July 1, 2023, and ending on December 31, 2027. This period includes the next 50-over Cricket World Cup. Current head coach Rahul Dravid‘s tenure has been extended until June, covering the ICC T20 World Cup in the West Indies and USA from June 1 to 29.

The selection process for the new head coach will include a comprehensive review of applications, followed by personal interviews and assessments of shortlisted candidates. The BCCI has outlined specific qualifications for potential head coaches, such as having played a minimum of 30 Test matches or 50 ODIs, or having served as a head coach of a full member Test-playing nation for at least two years.

India will then face the USA and Canada on June 12 and 15, respectively.

Harbhajan Singh, known for his fiery spirit and tactical acumen, could bring a fresh perspective to the Indian team if selected as the head coach. His extensive experience and understanding of the game, combined with his leadership skills, make him a strong candidate for the role. The cricketing fraternity and fans will be keenly watching the developments as the BCCI moves forward with the selection process.
