The situation was unlucky to say the least for the team, as Gujarat Titans didn’t even get to play against their opponents for the day, Kolkata Knight Riders.

KKR is the team that holds number 1 spot on the points table, whereas GT was at the second last spot, followed by Mumbai Indians. With this, GT becomes the 2nd team to be eliminated out of the tournament, with MI being the first.

Rain-check leads to elimination

Heavy rains in Ahmedabad have led to a cancellation of today’s match at the Narendra Modi Stadium between Gujarat Titans and Kolkata Knight Riders.

There was also a delay in KKR’s last match, against MI in Kolkata due to the rain. Coincidentally, both teams who faced KKR and the rain have been eliminated from the season.

The captains of both the teams came together to shake each other’s hands and ended the confusion and unsure nature of the match, leading to a disappointment for the spectators.

A combination of lightning and rain forced the first abandoned game of IPL 2024 in Ahmedabad on Monday, and in the process confirmed two things: Kolkata Knight Riders’ top-two finish in the league stage and Gujarat Titans’ elimination from playoff contention.

GT was to wear lavender jerseys for cancer awareness

Today would’ve marked GT’s final game at their home ground in the IPL 2024 season. The franchise had earlier announced, that the team would be donning special ‘lavender’ colored jerseys today to raise awareness for cancer and “demonstrate solidarity with cancer patients”.

GT had previously done the same thing in the IPL 2023 season. This had happened in a match against Sun Risers Hyderabad.

“This gesture will serve as a reminder of the importance of early detection and access to quality care for improving outcomes in patients with cancer,” Gujarat-based franchise said in a statement.

“This initiative will help educate fans about cancer prevention, emphasizing the importance of lifestyle adjustments and regular screenings for early detection,” the release added.
