GT To Don Lavender Jerseys In SRH vs GT, After Rain Washed The GT vs KKR Match Away

The Gujarat Titans have decided to stick by their idea of raising awareness about cancer through their Jerseys. The team had worn Lavender coloured Jerseys in 2023 to raise awareness for cancer, and they hoped to do the same in their last home-game of the IPL 2024 season.

Nature had other plans as the Titans could not even play their last home game for the season due to heavy downpour in Ahmedabad.

After the GTvsKKR match got canceled, GT got out of the race for IPL 2024 playoffs. Meanwhile KKR was the first team this season to qualify for the same.

GT gives second chance to the Lavender

Even though Gujarat is out of the playoffs race, the team is still up to play their final match for the season.

GT is soon to compete against SunRisers Hyderabad in the former’s final match for the 66th match of IPL 2024. The match is scheduled for 16 May at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad.

In a post on X from GT’s official handle, that has now gone viral, the team has said that they are to don the Lavender jerseys.

“Our last match was abandoned due to rain and hence our team shall don the lavender jersey in our final match of the season against SRH ” the tweet said.

Coincidentally, GT had also worn the Lavender jerseys last season in a match against SRH.

Rain Washed away GT’s playoffs dreams

Heavy rains in Ahmedabad had led to a cancellation of the IPL 2024 match at the Narendra Modi Stadium between GT and KKR.

There was also a delay in KKR’s previous match before this one, against MI in Kolkata due to the rain.

Ironically, both teams who faced KKR and the rain have been eliminated from the season.

The captains of both the teams came together to shake each other’s hands and ended the confusion and unsure nature of the match, leading to a disappointment for the spectators.

A combination of lightning and rain forced the first abandoned game of IPL 2024 in Ahmedabad on Monday, and in the process confirmed two things: Kolkata Knight Riders’ top-two finish in the league stage and Gujarat Titans’ elimination from playoff contention.
