GT Captain Shubman Gill Slapped with Rs 24 Lakh Fine for Slow Over-Rate in IPL Clash Against CSK

In a recent development in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, Gujarat Titans (GT) captain Shubman Gill has been fined a substantial amount of Rs 24 lakhs for maintaining a slow over-rate during his team’s match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on May 10. This is the second time GT has been penalized for slow over-rate this season, highlighting the seriousness of the offense.

The Board of Cricket Council (BCCI) confirmed the fine, which amounts to 25% of Shubman Gill’s match fees. Additionally, the rest of the GT playing XI will also face a fine, which will be 25% of their match fees or Rs 6 lakhs, whichever is lesser.

Despite the slow over-rate, GT managed to secure a crucial victory against defending champions CSK, winning the match by a convincing margin of 35 runs. Shubman Gill played a pivotal role in the victory, notably scoring a brilliant century from the opening stand.

The slow over-rate offense is considered a serious breach of the newly implemented codes of conduct in the IPL. The BCCI’s decision to impose a significant fine on Shubman Gill and the rest of the team underscores the importance of maintaining over rates and ensuring the timely completion of matches.
