Good news for ICT fans, Rishabh Pant begins his journey towards recovery

Rishabh Pant, the young and talented wicketkeeper-batsman of the Indian cricket team, has commenced his rehabilitation program at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. In a recent update shared on his Instagram handle, Pant can be seen lying on a bed while a medical expert from NCA is examining his leg injury.

The accident

Pant’s road to recovery has been arduous, having suffered severe injuries in a car accident in December 2022. He is expected to remain out of cricketing action for a minimum of one year. The medical team at the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital and Medical Research Institute in Mumbai is closely monitoring Pant’s progress, and he recently underwent surgery in January to treat a ligament tear. Another surgery may be necessary for his full recovery. The Board of Control for Cricket in India is also keeping a close watch on Pant’s medical status.

The 25-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman, who last played for India in a two-match Test series against Bangladesh in December 2022 had been sidelined from the sport since the beginning of 2023 due to multiple injuries sustained in that life-threatening road accident on the Delhi-Dehradun highway in the wee hours of December 30, 2022.

Will miss out on 1 year of cricket

In addition to missing the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League, Rishabh Pant is expected to sit out of the upcoming edition of the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup. The 2023 edition of the men’s 50-over event will be hosted by India and is set to take place across 12 venues during the months of October and November. While it’s unfortunate that Pant will miss out on such a significant event on home soil, it’s crucial that he takes the time to recover fully from his injuries to avoid any potential long-term damage.

Pant’s absence from the Indian squad will undoubtedly be felt, given his remarkable performances with both bat and gloves in recent years. However, it also presents an opportunity for other talented players to step up and make their mark on the international stage.
