Gill Reflects on Match Loss: Acknowledges CSK’s Dominance, Calls it a Learning Experience

It is just the 7th match of IPL 2024 and the tournament got thrilled like every other season. In the seventh match, Chennai Super Kings locked horns with Gujarat Titans. The match ended in favor of Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans faced hard luck. After the match, Gujarat Titans’ new captain Shubman Gill opened up about the match.

On the Performance:

Initially, after winning the toss Gujarat Titans opted to bowl first. While bowling first, they struggled. The bowlers conceded too many runs and failed to make a big impact on their bowling performance. Chennai Super Kings scored 206/6 in 20 overs. While talking about it, Gill said, “They outplayed us when we were batting, their execution was spot on. We backed ourselves to get a decent score in the powerplay and once we didn’t, we were always playing catch-up. It was unfortunate for us. In T20 you can always talk about 10-15 runs here or there, end of the day it’s about how much they got.”

Later he added, “On this wicket, we were expecting to chase 190-200. I think it’s a great learning for the bowlers. I think it’s better to have this kind of game early on in the tournament rather than in the middle or late. We always expected to chase 190-200, it was a really good wicket. Felt like we let ourselves down while batting.”

On His New Role:

After Hardik Pandya’s transfer to the Mumbai Indians, Gujarat Titans needed a captain. Before starting the season, the franchise announced him as their captain. As a captain, he registered his first win against Mumbai in the previous match. In that match, he has done an amazing job with the captaincy.

While talking about his new role, Shubman said, “Lot of new learnings, new experiences and different things. It’s exciting to captain a team like Gujarat Titans, we’ve made it to the finals in the last couple of years so very exciting.”
