Former KKR Captain Gautam Gambhir is back at Chennai once again, but this time as KKR’s mentor. After a warming homecoming in Kolkata, Gautam Gambhir has played a crucial role in the KKR team and guided Skipper Shreyas Iyer and his team amazingly, which resulted in them being at the final and just a step away from their third title of IPL. Before clashing against SRH today, KKR won two IPL titles in the years 2012 and 2014, and surprisingly, both came under the leadership of Gautam Gambhir.
Manoj Tiwary Praises Gambhir’s Mentorship:
Under Gautam Gambhir’s stellar mentorship, Kolkata Knight Riders ignited a remarkable turnaround at Eden Gardens, finishing at the top of the league standings. Iyer and his team amassed 20 points during the league stage, becoming the first to secure a playoff spot. KKR then dominated Sunrisers Hyderabad in Qualifier 1, earning their place in the IPL 2024 final.
Gambhir’s successful return to KKR has positioned him as a top contender for the upcoming India head coach vacancy. Reports indicate the BCCI has approached him for this prestigious role. Manoj Tiwary praised Gambhir for his fearless leadership style at KKR, which has transformed the team into a formidable force in the IPL, further solidifying his coaching credentials.
Manoj Tiwary said, “Gautam Gambhir has made the difference this season. This is the same team that was playing in the last two seasons, but the performances were not there on the field. The way everyone has performed, you have to say that Gambhir has made the difference. It is not like only one person should get the credit. The players have really stepped up and expressed themselves to play fearless cricket in IPL 2024.”
Following seventh-place finishes in the 2022 and 2023 seasons, KKR appointed Gambhir as their mentor to revitalize the team. The coaching lineup is headed by Chandrakant Pandit, with Abhishek Nayar serving as assistant coach. Additionally, James Foster joins as another assistant coach, Bharat Arun takes on the role of bowling coach, and Ryan Ten Doeschate is responsible for fielding coaching. This comprehensive coaching staff aims to enhance KKR’s performance and strategic approach in the league.
