Cricket Ireland Chief Executive Warren Deutrom expressed regret over Porterfield’s resignation, recognizing the demands of his new coaching position at Lancashire. Deutrom conveyed his understanding of Porterfield’s decision, acknowledging the challenges of juggling responsibilities between the board and coaching commitments in the cricketing world.
He said, “We were very sad to lose Porty but he just took up a job as assistant coach at Lancashire, That is a very tough, busy job so Porty wasn’t able to give the best of himself as a Cricket Ireland board director.”
Later he added, “It’s to his credit that he didn’t want to do the job unless he’s going to do it to the best of his ability.”
Throughout his esteemed career, Porterfield represented Ireland in three Tests, 148 ODIs, and 61 T20Is. While he scored 58 runs in Tests, his ODI performance was impressive with 4343 runs, including 11 centuries and 20 half-centuries, with a highest score of 139. In the shortest format, he accumulated 1079 runs, showcasing his versatility across different formats.
