Former Indian cricketer and Haryana Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Joginder Sharma is facing allegations in connection with the tragic suicide of a resident in Hisar. The FIR, filed by Haryana Police, includes accusations of abetment of suicide against Joginder Sharma and five others.
Joginder Sharma gained prominence in Indian cricket history for bowling the decisive last over in the inaugural ICC T20 final in South Africa in 2007. Having transitioned to a role in the Haryana Police as DSP, he now finds himself embroiled in a legal matter over a Hisar resident’s suicide.
Details of the Tragic Incident
On January 1, Pawan, a resident of Hisar, took his own life amid an alleged property dispute. The victim’s mother, Sunita, filed a complaint the following day, asserting that her son faced harassment from Joginder Sharma and the others, which ultimately led to the tragic incident. Sunita revealed that a property-related case was pending trial in court.
Haryana Police has registered an FIR against Joginder Sharma and the five others, identified as Ajayveer, Ishwar Prem, Rajendra Sihag, for their alleged involvement in abetting the suicide. The victim’s family has demanded the accused be arrested under the Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, emphasizing the need for justice and a fair investigation.
Protest and Demands by Victim’s Family
In response to the incident, Pawan’s family staged a protest, carrying his body and demanding justice. They presented six demands to the police, including financial assistance to the family and an impartial probe into the circumstances surrounding Pawan’s suicide.
In the midst of the allegations, Joginder Sharma has denied any knowledge or involvement in the case. He stated, “I am not aware of this case. I neither know nor have ever met Pawan.” The former cricketer remains steadfast in his denial and awaits the outcome of the investigation.
Ongoing Investigation
A senior police official mentioned that the accused, including Joginder Sharma, have been charged with abetment of suicide. The section related to SC/ST (Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes) will be added based on the findings of the ongoing investigation.
